Research the symbolism of the Olympic rings

According to the Olympic Charter, the five-ringed symbol "represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games." Baron Pierre de Coubertin conceived of both the symbol and the flag. Not coincidentally, Coubertin is the founder of the modern Olympic Movement. The Olympic Committee adopted the flag in 1914, and it was first flown at the 1920 Antwerp Games.
While the charter isn't explicit, many believe that the colour of the flag-- blue, black, red, yellow, and green on a white field -- are used because at least one of these colors exists in each of the flags of the nations participating in the Olympics. This may be true; however, the notion that each ring represents a specific continent is not. The five interlocking rings represent the five continents brought together by the Olympic Movement.
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games adds an additional layer of symbolism to the flag. Traditionally, eight people carry in the flag. Five of these flagbearers represent the continents, while the other three stand for the Olympic ideals of sport, environment, and culture.

Research the Olympic Motto.

A motto is a phrase which sums up a life philosophy or a code of conduct to follow

.The Olympic motto is made up of three Latin words: "Citius, Altius, Fortius", these words mean "Faster, Higher, Stronger".These three words help encourage the athlete to give Him/Her best during competition, and to view this effort as a victory in itself. The sense of the motto is that being first is not necessarily a priority, but that giving one's best and striving for personal excellence is a worthwhile goal.History The three Latin words became the Olympic motto in 1894, the date of the IOC's creation. Pierre de Coubertin proposed the motto, having borrowed it from his friend Henri Didon, a Dominican priest who taught sport to students. To better understand the motto, we can compare it with the following well-known phrase:

Research the beginning of the modern Olympics

When did the modern games begin?

As the Games had a strong non-Christian religious element, and took place around a temple, the Christian Emperor of Rome banned them in 394 AD, after 1170 years of competitions. It would take another 15 centuries before they were held again.
Pierre de Coubertin, a French Baron, believed passionately in the Olympic ideal that even enemies could be united in a sporting competition. He believed that an event such as the Olympics could be used to bring countries closer together to promote peace.Eventually in 1896, the games returned to Greece , as they did again 108 years later.
